At a first glance, modern bathroom vanities might look rather simple – even more than a little bit similar. But despite sharing a similar aesthetic, modern bathroom vanities actually offer a surprisingly diverse array of features. From innovative and customizable designs to small details that stand out against a stark, minimalist aesthetic, modern bathroom vanities are more diverse than you might think. In fact, modern double bathroom vanities are an excellent option for a master bathroom as they can easily be tailored to fit your space and your individual needs.

One of my favorite examples of this is the Blox collection from Xylem. Rather than offering a single style, this design set is purchased in pieces that can be connected, like building blocks, to create a totally customized style. You can choose between counters and drawers in multiple sizes, in counter and above counter sink installation, as well as a range of additional storage options. These pieces can be assembled and mounted any way you want: as a single unit, in multiple pieces, two drawers connected by a bridge, two shelves connected by a drawer, and so on. Not only does this allow you a huge degree of freedom in getting a look you love, it also lets you get exactly the storage – and size – you want.

Modular double bathroom vanities are actually quite common in modern bathroom design – much more so than in any other style – which is useful whether you have a small bathroom or a very large one. In a small bathroom, a modular design allows you to get just the pieces you need to maximize your storage in a small space. In a large bathroom, it allows you to combine vanities and storage pieces to make a bathroom vanity that’s as large as you need it to be. And because these vanities are sold in separate pieces, even if you opt for a design that will be very large once it’s assembled, each piece is small enough to be moved in and out of the room with ease.

Modern double bathroom vanities often also come as part of larger combination sets, including storage cabinets, mirrors, or even sinks and faucets. Of course, this isn’t unique to modern design, but often storage items included with traditional bathroom vanities are only available in one size: large and cumbersome. Modern bathroom vanities are more easily coordinated because they lack ornamental carving, but that means that a wider variety of storage cabinets can match a single piece, giving you a greater range of options. Plus, modern furniture design is often more storage savvy, meaning even smaller cabinets are often more efficient.

Similarly, while traditional bathroom vanities also often come paired with sinks and faucets, they’re very often generic undermount porcelain sinks – more affordable, but nothing remarkable. But when modern bathroom vanities come with included sinks, they’re often highly decorative, either vessel sinks or dazzling glass sinks integrated directly into the counter top. These are installed above the cabinet so the sinks seem to be floating, and offer a style that’s totally unique to modern design.

And while modern bathroom vanities may be outwardly simple, as I mentioned before they often have more sophisticated interior designs, with features like pull out shelves, hidden drawers, drawer organizers, or – most importantly – large storage drawers that go all the way up to the counter. Most traditional vanity cabinets have a large chunk of unusable space below the counter top that’s occupied by the sink and plumbing. But shallow, integrated, or top-mount sinks combined with drawers cut to accommodate streamlined plumbing allow for more and more easily accessible storage space.

Finally, modern double bathroom vanities are great for smaller master bathrooms, too, and not just for their extra storage. Because modern vanities are so flexible in their designs, it’s possible to find models with two sinks and plenty of storage that are impressively small. Wall mounted double vanities (which are almost exclusively modern in style) take up less space than full cabinets, and narrow designs make the most of every inch by packing the inside with extra drawers and shelves. Especially narrow models can be a tad elbow-bumpy, but if you really, really want separate sinks and separate storage for two, modern double bathroom vanities are simply the best way to get it in the least amount of space.
What do you think of modern double bathroom vanities? Do you like the sleek, minimalist style, or are you looking for a compact, storage smart option?
