Gorgeous Fixtures and Bathroom Lighting Ideas

Chandelier in a bathroom

When we bathe, we are completely vulnerable and exposed. We want ambient light because we don’t want someone to be able to spy on us like in Psycho, but we want task lights to feel like nobody can sneak up on us either like in Jurassic Park. Basically, we want something more than a fluorescent light bulb jutting out above the mirror. Our dream bathroom lighting fixtures are out there.

Task lighting is crucial for grooming. There’s nothing worse than putting your make-up on in the bathroom, going to work and realizing your face doesn’t match your neck. My boyfriend accidentally wore a white shirt with a horrible stain on it to work. In our lighting at home you can’t see it at all, but under the fluorescent lights in his office, the yellow spot is quite evident.

The definition of relaxation for me is reclining in a hot bath by candlelight. The soft light quiets my thoughts and I can finally feel my worries drifting away… that is, of course, until I start worrying about the open candles all around me. For the most ideal ambient lighting, it’s smart to have the wall sconces and ceiling lights on a dimmer.

The Montesino Collection from Hunter

Hunter isn’t just good for their ceiling fans. The Montesino lights are a Hunter product. Having some light coming from the ceiling and the mirror makes a very flattering reflection. In a room that often has almost no natural light, it’s good to have multiple light sources balanced about the space.

The manor house light is a classic bathroom ornament. Three above the tub, two on either side of the mirror and the room is aglow with Sea Gull Lighting.

Wall Fluorescent Light

The fluorescent wall light looks perfect in a more contemporary styled bathroom.

Amber Lights from Triarch International

I used to have lights like these Triarch International vanity lights in my living room. They were on a dimmer so I could lower the light while I watched TV with just enough light to help me not get a glare on my glasses. Amber is a very soothing color for a glass shade. If your bathroom has deep gem tones or bronzes, the amber would look incredible.

The Highlands Wall Torchiere
The Highlands Wall Torchiere

The Highlands Wall Torchiere is something you don’t see every day. A unique light like this also acts as a work of art in the bathroom.

This is a room in which we often don’t have good light or enough space. The right lights can turn a bathroom around even better than a different color paint job. It’s amazing how otherwise hideous walls look under better lighting. My landlord chose a white paint that looks sickly yellow in the only light in the room which comes from above the mirror. Experiment a little and you’ll see a bathroom can be completely made over with a few extra light sources.
